A thinker and a downer. This tabblo says a lot.
Pkeener said at 12:42 p.m. on Jul 9, 2007:
All of these things made me sad when I saw them Even if the message was good, it troubles me that we have a need to make these statements. I have so many more, but didn't want to beat a dead horse. Thanks for commenting!

excellent tabblo, but saddening...
LatentE said at 5:24 p.m. on Jul 9, 2007:
I wrote a rant but this isn't the place for it. The dialog in America is finally beginning to change but sadly it will take a generation or more to right the wrongs done and we haven't yet even begun to reverse the free fall we're in.
Pkeener said at 5:50 p.m. on Jul 9, 2007:
Latent, Please feel free to express yourself on my Tabblos!
LatentE said at 6:39 p.m. on Jul 9, 2007:
Tabblo (the site) is something of a dinner party, coffee table, show us your pictures place. Wouldn't want to spoil the light hearted mood. :P

Sometimes pictures do tell a story though. A view from Red Hook, Brooklyn -

That photo is excellent. At first I thought it might have been from the aftermath of 911, but I see a date on the car is from 2005.
Floridamolle said at 7:36 p.m. on Jul 9, 2007:
A very think worthy tabblo, I have a lot of opinions about most of the subjects, and you are right, it make me BLUE!!
LatentE said at 8:12 p.m. on Jul 9, 2007:
Nothing to do with 9-11. More a contrast between symbols and reality. Symbols should reflect reality otherwise they're lies.

Looking at a couple of the memes in your tabblo I get a déjà vu feeling regarding the anti-gay group and the POW-MIA flag under the Stars-and-Stripes.

There's a church group (Westboro Baptist Church) that demonstrates at military funerals claiming that the soldiers (sailors and marines) died because God punished them for fighting for a country that tolerates gays. They actually have signs like "Thank God for Dead Soldiers."

Remembering the times when the POW-MIA meme was strongest - the Reagan era - it was used as a cudgel against the mythical DFH (with "hippies," google should clarify what that stands for) demonizing those who at any time sought to end the Vietnam war. The irony is that during the time frame of that war it wasn't the hippies that disparaged the returning Vietnam vets. It was World War II vets.

Then it was the vets dumping on the vets and now it's the "deeply religious" dumping on them, but those against the mess of the wars they see and saw, are and were the ones demonized.

Contrast the backgrounds and the treatment thereof of George W. Bush and John Kerry.

Public dialog or propaganda? Dittoheads or informed citizenry?
Pkeener said at 8:26 p.m. on Jul 9, 2007:
You, know, when i take pictures of these kinds of things, I always take pause at what is being said. I sometimes agree and other times do not, but approach it as a third party observer, just documenting the signs, if you will, of our times. I really get a kick out of this. It is not for me to judge or take sides...The POW flag flies at a Veteran's office close to my house. I was also reminded of the Viet Nam era when I saw it. The anti-gay group was at the Pridefest Parade a few weeks ago. I was appalled that they would use the name of God in a hateful statement.

Pam, thanks, as always, for a thoughtful and thought provoking tabblo. I think we (I) tend to insulate ourselves to avoid confronting the uncomfortable/hateful all around us. A well-done reminder.
Pkeener said at 4:29 p.m. on Jul 16, 2007:
Fred, I mean Wings. Nancy, it's easy not to see these things.
Lifequest22 said at 1:59 p.m. on Jul 18, 2008:
One of your excellent Monday blues. The typical Gay Hate Mongers. They justify everything-even hate -- in their god's name.
Pkeener said at 10:38 a.m. on Aug 9, 2008:
I know, Meegs, it made me sick to see that sign.
