Manhattan on the Hudson - II

Atmosphere.   What's the atmosphere like on the Hudson River's edge?     The mood.       - Whatever you like.

Blue?   How about a blue sunset. A blue sunset between Lady Liberty and Ellis Island.

This is the view from the start of the Hudson River path.

Mysterious.   Misty.

Misty morning.

On the left is another view from the start of the pathway.

Below is of the 79th Street Boat Basin, about six miles north.

Can you hear the fog horns?

Foggy evening view of Jersey City, again from the start of the Hudson River path.

A hazy evening stroll along the west edge.

This is just south of Houston Street.

But moods can vary and vary they do.

Even the gulls stop to watch a pink sunset.

Sunset view from a few blocks south of Houston Street.

But pink is only one of the shades of sky.

Early evening view of the pier at the level of 70th Street though the distant streets are only a faint memory.

Sunset view from just south of the 79th Street Boat Basin.

Setting sun between a couple of buildings near the Colgate clock in New Jersey. View is from the start of the Hudson River path.

After sunset at the South Cove, a small inlet with a curved decking just a little north of the start of the pathway.   This image was used in my first tabblo. It's a double image wide view.

Another image used in my first tabblo here. It was taken in Battery Park just yards south of the Hudson River path. The foreground statue is a Merchant Marine World War II memorial.

That's all for today.     Hope you liked the views.

It's another nice looking day. Time to go out and enjoy it.

Mesmerizing. I love your world. the last shot and the one of the early evening pier are my faves. How did you get that pier shot?
LatentE said at 7:56 a.m. on Jun 3, 2007:
Pam,

The evening shot of the curved deck at the South Cove was taken with the camera mounted on a railing on the cove just opposite the end of the decking as it curves back towards land. I took a couple of images by swiveling the camera. No special equipment was used to ensure horizontal leveling. The images didn't line up perfectly but could be fudged since the areas with alignment problems were in shadow.

You can get an aerial view of the South Cove area via "Live view"

Oh WOW! These are just stunning. They take us from one mood to another, so well composed and framed. I love the blue decking one, and the blue sunset, and...and...and..... just ALL of them. Wonderful tabblo. One of my favourites for sure!

Whoa...What a stunning collective of photos!!...Im crazy for the mist shots, and that big, fat sun hanging between the buildings... The very top shot, with Liberty to the side that's a very powerful shot....It sort of ooozes lonely....How is it you managed to get such HUGE photos uploaded here?

You can make images wide if you use the "Borderless 6 col" layout. It's wider than all the other templates. You can spot it by the 6 rows of squares in the icon but also look for the label just above the icons when you move the selection pointer over the particular layout icon. It would probably help to select "Manual" in "Layout" in the floating menu on the right along with one of the manual grid patterns - medium or fine.

These are very beautiful pictures! Good of you!
LatentE said at 10:11 p.m. on Jul 17, 2007:
Sorry Pam, I was just looking at this tabblo and noticed that you asked about the evening shot of the pier and I answered about the evening shot of the South Cove deck. The pier image is fairly straight forward. A standard time exposure - not an HDR image. Camera was mounted on the bike rather than my more usual rail mounting. The images in this tabblo with centered railings are all because the camera was mounted on the railing. In the same way I use the top tube of the bicycle to mount the camera. The sky that evening looked like that. It's at that time of evening when artificial and natural light are balanced in intensity. The contrast of cool-violet sky and warm toned lights and pier was an easy incentive to stop and take some shots.
