11 January 2007: Las Vegas warmth to Salt Lake snow

Shot while moving, out the driver side window, without looking.

My first pit stop. Even colder than it looks.

Ranchland surrounded by volcanic mountains.

Where I got stopped on the way down, for being dumb.

Old Lake Bonneville shoreline, now a marine terrace.

A volcano of recent (3 million year old) vintage.

Precambrian layers thrust over more recent Devonian ones.

The southern end of the Wasatch range.

A truck points the way to Mt. Nebo.

Mt. Nebo, with glacial cirques, edged by earth flows.

Serious snow shows up at the Point of the Mountain.

Snow gets thick and slick coming into Salt Lake City

This made me a little homesick for my mountains. Our family in Utah said it's been really cold and the snowiest it's been in years there. Going around the point of the mountain can be kind of scary in bad weather, but it looks like you made it safely. Nice pics by the way.
