Heks of geen heks? Doe de weegtest in Oudewater!

Bezoekers uit heel de wereld komen al zo'n honderd jaar naar de Waag in Oudewater. Ze gaan op de weegschaal staan en ontvangen een certificaat. Al in de 17e eeuw vond deze weging plaats. Toen was dat van levensbelang: mensen werden beschuldigd van toverij en belandden op de brandstapel. Keizer Karel V gaf Oudewater als enige plaats in Europa het privilege voor een eerlijk weegproces. Niemand werd er ooit tot heks veroordeeld.

 

Museum the Witches Weighhouse.

Much of Oudewater's city centre is on the register of monuments. The Witches Weighhouse is located in the historic centre. The historical building now serves as a museum. Visitors can see an audiovisual presentation and exhibition about witchhunting and can be weight on the original scales.
