Besides a collection of cookies (thanks to a bunch of teenagers visiting yesterday), the kitchen in my house is (like the rest of my house) the showcase of a number of other collections. We've got stuff on walls, stuff on counters, in cabinets and drawers. |
Collection of mostly eaten cookies, courtesy of Anais and her friends. |
Some people collect specific things. Not I. I collect anything and everything...ok, maybe not EVERYTHING. Some of them are sentimental. Some are just for fun. And some are a combination of both.
Below, I have a collection of things that have been assembled on the walls. |
Caps and lids! |
Sometimes... I even collect things for a purpose. These caps and lids over to the left here. I'm collecting these for school. Just think of all the ways you could sort those babies! |
Present from one of my students, Zoie. Zoie is a senior in high school now. |
Nifty little tile that I bought at Bed, Bath and Beyond one year. |
Teacher gift. |
Another teacher gift. |
Grapes. |
Picture that used to be at Tallahassee Day School. It was given to me after we moved to the new building. |
Some people use a counter space to prepare food. I use it (or a large portion of it) to showcase stuff. |
Fruits and veggies! |
Teapot and cups. Why? Because they were cool. |
Ooh! A collection of corks! |
Coffee! |
This belonged to my mom. Notice the awesome, pure 1970's goodness. |
Cheese cutters make for cool cheese! |
Anais' cool set that I got from Epcot's Japan. |
Keegan's using the little bowl to keep his legos together at the moment. |
I do have a thing about funky dishes and cups. |
This set also includes a bowl...it's dirty and in the dishwasher. |
Aw! It's a kitty cup! |
Little duckie cup that I got at Epcot (China). |
Swedish child's game. |
Lars got a cute puppy bowl. |
Anais' set of dishes. |
Dad's bowl. No plate. |
Lars' plate. No bowl. |
Several years ago (pre-Keegan) we tried something new. Each person in the family got to pick their own plates and bowls. Each member was responsible for making sure they were clean and put away.
It didn't last long. Notice that the girls' dishes are the only ones with two pieces. |
My set of dishes. |
Savannah, GA |
Teacher gift. |
Everyone needs a collection of mugs. |
Went here after my grandfather's funeral. |
Who doesn't <3 Jim? |
Harry Potter I. |
Got this on Jersey Island when preggers. |
I may be a mom, but I'm a babe. lol |
One of these days, I'll buy an actual set of glasses. These were the "bottles" for the Pom Tea that I used to buy.
Below is my window seat. |

Cookbooks. Not sure why I still have the baby food one. The baby is now 7. |
Guides to DC. |
Curtain with sunflower. |

Got this at a candle party in Tallahassee. |
Very dusty vase, teacher gift apple, some old watercolor brushes being stored badly. |
We recycle. A lot. |
Onto the cabinets themselves. They are the showcases for many of my kitchen collections. |
You can tell where the kids can reach. |
Ooh! Dishes! |
Spices and such. The spices aren't in order. I might have to go back and fix. |
If someone could tell me a great way to store stupid containers, I would be grateful. |
Pots, pans, bowls, etc. |
Clippy guy. |
The refrigerator. Also a wonderful canvas to display collections. |

Keegan art magnet with my ipod receipt. Why is my ipod receipt on the fridge? |
Yuck. |
Did I mention that I HATE this refrigerator? We're renting, and it comes with the house. Pretty gross. And that's not taking into account all of the food that I should probably toss. |
OMG, that's gross. |
Hidden collections in drawers. |
Silverware from my gram. I can't stand when it's not put in neatly! |
Clean towels! Yay! |
Misc. |
More misc. |
Junk drawer #1. |
Junk drawer #2. |
Almost useful. |
Junk drawer #3...but look...more corks! |

If you come to visit, pretend that you don't see this. |
My embarrassing little corner of collections. This is the "god knows what" collection...aka a "hotspot for crap". |

Our underused family planner. It drives me crazy. We only have one color of dry-erase marker, and my husband REFUSES to clean the damned calendar off before he redoes the calendar for the next month...leaving a red glow throughout the entire thing. |
Harry Potter as done by cats and dogs. Notice the quidditch field and Hogwarts. Artwork by Anais. |
