Laying Tracks on the Fax

Brent Loveday

www.myspace.com/brentloveday

FTF Studios

Colfax Ave.

Denver, CO

I was hanging out at the studio a few weeks ago, when Brent Loveday dropped by to lay the basic tracks for a new song he is working on.

Just happened to have my camera, and so as not to disrupt, all shots are hand held, using available light.

Nice behind the scenes work, Pam. There's a 360 degree feel to the angles, and a lot of moods in the posture and face of Brent Loveday.

Great shoot. Nice to be able to take candids in the studio. I think taking the shots with what light was availiable suits this set.
Ira said at 5:34 a.m. on Jul 2, 2009:
Interesting and remarkable photographs. Work of the talented and absorbed person. Person, who obtains the present pleasure from the dialogue with the guitar. Music to me seems very characteristic for America. You made excellent shots.
Buschinho said at 6:02 a.m. on Jul 2, 2009:
I would like to listen to the music ... NOW!!!
unfortunately I have to work... ;-)

Beautiful work, very beautiful.

It's really interesting to see a real working space like this. I like both sets of keys in the background, the electric piano being my favorite.
Umauma said at 8:52 a.m. on Jul 2, 2009:
Very cool Pam...
Karsten said at 10:03 a.m. on Jul 2, 2009:
great angles and the light is great Pam - gives the feeling of the atmosphere there - cool stuff! Did you play the guitar with him???
Bravemoonbearer said at 11:13 a.m. on Jul 2, 2009:
Another way cool capture. The first photo would make a neat sleeve cover for his record.
Pkeener said at 11:34 a.m. on Jul 2, 2009:
Thanks guys. It was a perfect moment for me, because I wasn't planning on taking any photos, and the light in the studio was so perfect.

Karsten, no I didn't play. I am not it that league, for sure.

Andreas, go to his myspace ink I provided when you are finished with work!

Eric, the space is very cool. There's a drum kit, and a ton of guitars, as well. It was so fun to observe and listen and watch them mix after Brent sang and played his guitar tracks. I loved how his guitar looked in that light and that's what inspired me to grab my camera. That guitar is named Tokyo Rose. It was an old circa 1960's cheap Japanese made with no name that the Colfax Guitar Shop rebuilt for him. Sounds so great, now. He usually plays a Les Paul on stage with his band, Reno Divorce, who just left for a tour of EUROPE.

Thank you Jourma, I have a ton more shots, but these told the story i think.

Ira, yes, Brent is a very talented artist, and a very sweet person.

Thank you Neushina

Leftie, I knew you would approve of the Vans

Mike, the first shot is through the glass partition, and then i creeped in to get the other ones, because the microphone was set to close proximity and wouldn't pick up my shutter noise.
Thank you Ranier. It was so cool to be that close.

Hi Sandy, I loved that first shot, too.

Great candid shots full of superb lighting and atmosphere and perspectives. .
AliDar said at 1:22 p.m. on Jul 2, 2009:
Handheld and natural lighting in my opinion is always the best anyway; it's real and raw, and that's life. Great angles on these; I can almost see you at work. :) The first shot is a definite gem! Not only do I love the reflection on the glass and the angle, but the composition is perfect! (Chuckling... Just happened to have your camera.... <G>)
Lageho said at 2:11 p.m. on Jul 2, 2009:

Chilla said at 5:07 p.m. on Jul 2, 2009:
Available light!! Sometimes photographs can look contrived and artificial light can be exactly that, it may make for the perfect photograph but doesn't capture the essence of the subject. This Tabblo captures all that and therefore seems so totally real just like the time you took the pictures in the art gallery!
Tishfish said at 5:10 p.m. on Jul 2, 2009:
Great shots ! ! ! I can almost hear the music too.
Appropos said at 6:33 p.m. on Jul 2, 2009:

Eduardo.affonso said at 9:03 p.m. on Jul 2, 2009:
I envy you firm hands... I would need a tripod to take photos like these with such lighting. I like the warmth of these images.
Bxrgirl27 said at 9:37 a.m. on Jul 3, 2009:
Nice! It put me right into the moment. :)
Chaitiamma said at 11:48 a.m. on Jul 3, 2009:
Very nice shots !!! When the artist is at work, he'll hardly notice anyone taking photos from outside the recording room.
Pkeener said at 1:17 p.m. on Jul 3, 2009:
Well, the light did lend itself to creating the perfect atmosphere. Eduardo, I brace myself with my arms and legs, and on some I was on the floor with my elbows like a tripod!
David, I was hoping for that.
Laura, Yes!
Noe, :o)
Farid, it was like that.
Debdog said at 1:38 p.m. on Jul 3, 2009:
