This car is fantastic, even as scrap. Nice photos.
Noe said at 1:49 a.m. on Jun 24, 2009:
Cool car!! Nice stuff Pam!... And I like you avatar too!! :oP
Erich said at 2:29 a.m. on Jun 24, 2009:
A Karman Ghia coupe from the early 60's!!! Awesome shots of the most beautiful car ever built. I have an old advertisement of this car in my flat and I think I will have to go to that place too, to take some pictures myself and make a poster of it. Thanks!!!
Chilla said at 2:41 a.m. on Jun 24, 2009:
This looks as though it was once a very beautiful vehicle which could be so again if restored! Great set of shots as it is being reclaimed by nature! #8 captured my eye!
Erich said at 2:43 a.m. on Jun 24, 2009:
ps. see my Tabblo "FROM THE OLD DAYS" :))
Pachito said at 3:39 a.m. on Jun 24, 2009:
This is heartbreaking! How could somebody let this beauty rot in the middle of nowhere? I will ask "Erich" to help me get the car to Frankfurt and we will bring it back to life. A Karman Ghia does not deserve to end like this.
Charlespop said at 5:05 a.m. on Jun 24, 2009:
Nice !
Jesusgoz said at 5:56 a.m. on Jun 24, 2009:
Buenas idea y fotos.
Leftofcenter said at 6:28 a.m. on Jun 24, 2009:
the saga continues. who'd leave a car like that in the bushes? classic pk. cool.
NeusinhaGedoz said at 8:14 a.m. on Jun 24, 2009:
Pam, this is the second car "rose-colored" I see. The first was a fusca that the Brazilian government gave Miss Brazil in the 60s as a prize for victory in Miss Universe. See that your memory tabblo has brought me. Loved. Beautiful tabblo.
DocEna said at 8:25 a.m. on Jun 24, 2009:
I compare this to open air grave sites full of defleshed bones. It1s a pity for humans and cars for this to happen. A shame the lack of respect for such a great car of its day, Super shots.

I really like the analytic eye you've turned on this. And, unfortunately, I also had a moment when I saw something of the future in this past. When I was sixteen and seventeen, I drove my brother's Karmann Ghia for about a year and a half while he was with the Army in Alaska. Cool points, I found, were accrued by other means. I have wondered from time to time what that vehicle's fate might have been. Probably something similar to this. It was already being passed around amongst teenagers when my brother bought it.

Cool...Kool...Kule....Colio............ #8 is Killer. An abandoned, rusting car like this one is a piece of art through the Keener camera lens. Pam, these images capture so many emotions....loneliness, abandonment, sadness, meloncholia...and beauty.
Swedfinn said at 11:27 a.m. on Jun 24, 2009:
We are like cars... in many ways....
Chaitiamma said at 11:31 a.m. on Jun 24, 2009:
Jorma has said it all................
Bravemoonbearer said at 11:55 a.m. on Jun 24, 2009:
I agree with Linda as many emotions ran through my mind as I looked at these photos. This is way too cool of a car to be treated like this.Nice capture of the head light and front grill.Looks to be so sad.
Pkeener said at 11:55 a.m. on Jun 24, 2009:
This little gem really struck me, too. It seemed to have made a perfect spot for it's final resting place. I was so amazed by the beauty of the patina and rust, juxtaposed by the beauty of the greening countryside. Ironic and touching. ANd the overcast Light was a photographer's dream that day. Of course, I couldn't wait to take every angle as it became "found" art for me.

I love all of your comments. It makes my Tabblo sharing so much better to read your thoughts, critiques, and insights.

LArs, yes!
Noe, thank you! I loke yours, too, BTW
Rainer, I sent you a message, and I agree, I have always been fond of Volkswagon, especially the Karmann Ghia
Celia, the interior was fascinating and I have quite a few of those...
OK. Patrick and Ranier, You are welcome to come to Colorado and I will guide you to Como! Then you are on your own as far as requisitions go ;))
Gracias, Jesus
Leftie, I have seen it all in these little 'ghost" towns!
Neushina, thank you for this bit of info! There is an intact Rose colored Ghia parked on my street, every day! I think it's the same year, too!
Enaldo, what a poetic thing to say, thank you
Hey, Stan, I love your story, and more than likely, it met it's fate in a similar fashion
Jourma, a nice metaphor, or is it similie?
Wildthing said at 12:15 p.m. on Jun 24, 2009:
Great stuff, Pam. #5 is my fave. This really is ART. Maybe all this old car needs is to be started up, and it will renew itself like King's Christine:)
Leeuwjan said at 12:45 p.m. on Jun 24, 2009:
Hi Pam,

I love your tabblo but I do not like this avatar.
Umauma said at 12:58 p.m. on Jun 24, 2009:
The reflection of the clouds is quite fitting...Great shots Pam. Comparing the car to our bodies...very interesting (to me anyway) to think of it like that...When the car breaks down and can no longer run...we get out of it and get a new one! In this car culture of ours...I heard someone say once when someone had hit his car..."You hit me!"
keep 'em coming!!! I think Leeuwjan doesn't like this avatar because he wants to see your wonderful smile!
Hollyridger said at 1:09 p.m. on Jun 24, 2009:
This is such a great tabblo - sad to see such a great car end up like this but somehow there is still some beauty to it. Somehow I missed this tabblo when you first posted it but finally I have lots of time to go back and enjoy the many tabblos I have missed. I am house-sitting in The Alberta Rockies enjoying some completely different scenery for a few weeks. I, too, like photo #5.
Moabjeeper said at 1:12 p.m. on Jun 24, 2009:

Cool! Andreas, Patrick and Rainer for a Colorado Photo Shoot!
Joe, I did B&W for years, and now I am in love with color, but i agree, it would be a nice study for it
Karsten, thank you so much. And as for the Avatar, well, you know, jusging by my avatar tabblo, it will change soon enough!
Edu, you know how I Always feel about your comments! Obrigad
Gerard, you are the coolest. I like your new Avatar.
Ira, hello! I think VW's are all over the world.
Bob, you know I could use your new lens, here!
Noreen, well, you haven't really missed this. I just did it last night. So good to hear from you. I hope to see your new batch of photos here.
Michelle, I am not of the disposable mentality that so many in this country adopt. But i wouldn't mind exchanging a few parts, now and then! Especially at my age.
Jan I always have admired your straight forward attitude, and I never take offense!
Mikey, #5 did have shades of Christine
Abking said at 9:25 p.m. on Jun 24, 2009:
Nothing lasts and there's beauty in the passage. The car reminds me of W. C. Williams poem, The Red Wheelbarrow:

so much depends
upon

a red wheel
barrow

glazed with rain
water

beside the white
chickens
Abking said at 9:26 p.m. on Jun 24, 2009:
Hey, what happened to the line breaks?!
Pkeener said at 12:39 a.m. on Jun 25, 2009:
i don't know what happened, but i love this poem, Allan. What a strong visual. cool. thx

PhotoPop said at 1:31 p.m. on Jul 10, 2009:
My best man at my wedding had a Karmman Ghia. It look real good but it did sound like a toy car with a large wined-up key. What will the say in the future when this is found in a dig. Keener was here???
WEIMAR said at 2:01 p.m. on Jul 23, 2009:
very good selected photographs of one 'car'
Pkeener said at 2:57 p.m. on Jul 23, 2009:
Hey Pop! I wish Keener was here would be somewhere!
Thank you, Heidi. It's a beauty of a car., even in it's delapitated state
