Last week, my sister-in-law and I took my granddaughter to the zoo.  It was a scorcher. Way too hot for man, for beast, for great aunts, and for grandmothers. Of  course, the kids had the water activities. The animals had their little ponds.  Deciding I didn't want heat stroke, I tossed my shoes off, cleared out my pockets and without inhibiton, joined my granddaughter in the kids water fountains. And amid the glaring stares of the other adults ( they were all obviously jealous ), and my sister-in-law sitting on a log panting and sweating, I stood under the waterfall and and managed to cool down enough to be able to drag myself back to my car and drive home.  I think next time I plan a trip to the zoo, it will be in the winter time.

This heat is unbearable. It's 85 degrees farenheit right now and it's 12:30 pm. I can't remember it ever being this hot. Notice how most of the animals are hanging by the water. I think it was too hot for them to sleep. ..... Wish I had a pool.

Lauren and the duck looked cool and happy! Not my idea of fun in the blistering heat but great idea to jump in the fountain and why not, aren't we all kids at heart!! Beautiful shots of the Tiger cubs.
Ira said at 5:34 a.m. on Jun 23, 2009:
Wonderful trip! Such amusing. Children and animals - remarkable dialogue. And the heat has not spoiled your perfect time. Very good photos.
Wildthing said at 6:01 a.m. on Jun 23, 2009:
Those big cats look cool, Linda. And so do you. It's been a while since we had a day at Lowry Zoo. I would certainly have been under the waterfall in that heat. Great shots.

Very lovely ! ! That happened to me when I went to the zoo down here, all the animals were hiding in the shade and there were lots of them that I didn't get a picture of.

Love your zoo pics...especially the tigers. Don't blame you one bit for getting into the water. Not only did you cool off, you also made a wonderful memory for your granddaughter.
AliDar said at 12:15 p.m. on Jun 23, 2009:
LOL, I was going to say you had forgotten to put a photo of you in the Kids section, but I'm glad you included it at the end. :) ... The White Tiger photos are wonderful, and so are the rest. ... I've never been to a zoo. ... Did you actually catch that Rhino pooping? <G>
Lifequest22 said at 12:31 p.m. on Jun 23, 2009:
LOL Dar--that's his leg, silly girl.

Thanks everyone for your comments. The Tiger cubs were so cute playing in the water and checking out all the visitors looking at them.

Bob--yes, she's still at that loosing teeth age.

Leftie Amiga--Sorry, didn't mean to disorient you, but thought I'd try the Hello Kitty sneakers for a change. And I know you don't read the included text, but that's where the story about my wet hair is explained.

Karsten--thanks. Yes, Sigfried and Roys tigers are like these two little guys. Not going back to the zoo until the weather cools down. LOL

Ceila--Jumping in the fountains di make me feel like a kid again.

Connie--I think Lauren will remember her crazy grandma running through the fountains with her and that is a good memory.

Sandy--I know you're glad you didn't join us that day.

Thanks Angela, Ira, Noe, David, JamesB and everyone else for joining my adventure at the HOT day at the zoo. :)
Mike--never ever go to Lowry Park Zoo in the summer.
Pkeener said at 12:54 p.m. on Jun 23, 2009:
Linda, I am so enamoured with that last shot of you and Lauren. What a role model you are for her. A Grandma who isn't afraid to be herself! The child in you in so refreshing. I don't think I could have mustered the trip to the Zoo in the heat of a Florida day. The blues eyed cubs are so adorable, the almost Kiss on the opening shot, the great smile on Lauren, the monkeys, right down to that last shot of the duck. KILLER shot, btw. Thank you for the dip!
Lifequest22 said at 1:14 p.m. on Jun 23, 2009:
Thanks, Pam. It was really a blast playing with Lauren in the water. I know down the road at some point , you'll do something similar with Carter. I wish I could have spent more time watching those cubs, but had to get out of the blasting sun and move on. I like that duck shot too. It was one of those shots that was suppose to be sharp but the blur was kinda Kool. Sometimes those messed up shots can still have some value.

Great Shots and the heat is awful isnt it....we are well into the 100's here in Nevada and I can't stand it!!! I need to be one of those "snowbirds" that moves from the winter to the warm place except opposite way around! I would be happy with cold weather all the time!! Great tiger shots!
Lifequest22 said at 11:20 a.m. on Jun 24, 2009:
Thanks Michelle.... I feel the same--Maine in the summer and Florida in the winter.
