Whose reality do you see? mine? or theirs?

Do pictures say a thousand words? or do they just merely suggest?

Will we ever know the truth?

grand, mysterious, well composed 'life'. could you send this to surrealism group?
Ira said at 12:53 p.m. on Mar 12, 2009:
I do not know what photos look brighter - colour or black-and-white. In your photos there is a truth and there is a unreality. Something mysterious. They are perfect. And they speak the truth by your eyes.
Joaqy said at 1:03 p.m. on Mar 12, 2009:
IRA: Is that possible to have truth and unreality at the same time? :)
Moorlerche said at 1:05 p.m. on Mar 12, 2009:
Joaquin, I see your reality. But as your eyes are not ignorant of their reality, I share it with your eyes too. These photos are awesome - a masterpiece of black and white photography. You have a really good eye for the essence of your surroundings and an amazing concept in using light and shades. These are photos you could publish.

Each of these photos admires and amazes imagination! Each of these photos touches soul! Each of these photos is worthy the biggest praise!

I believe that there is always a little truth in every lie. Great B & W pics. I especially like the one of the old woman & fishes.
Mrsfabulous said at 1:57 p.m. on Mar 12, 2009:
I say one truth and infinite realities -- truth is what is there, and what you make it mean to you is your reality.
Beautiful photos, Sir! They're heartbreaking and inspiring at the same time.
Dyowi said at 3:05 p.m. on Mar 12, 2009:
Every image is capture in perfection!
Pkeener said at 3:45 p.m. on Mar 12, 2009:
Here is one of my favorite mind benders from the great photographer, Richard Avedon:

A portrait is not a likeness. The moment an emotion or fact is transformed into a photograph it is no longer a fact but an opinion. There is no such thing as inaccuracy in a photograph. All photographs are accurate. None of them is the truth.

I was amazed at your thoughts at the end of these truly remarkable images. Your photos impart such a nostalgia for things of a bygone era, and at the same time, so cutting edge graphically post modern. LOL how's that for a critique? I jest, but I mean it, Joaqs, and I think you know what I am trying to say. Can't pick a fave, but I am leaning toward the umbrellas. remind me of H Cartier-Bresson, only YOU.
Lifequest22 said at 3:52 p.m. on Mar 12, 2009:
These stunning images have given me something to think about. I'll be back with my thoughts on reality, etc. But for the moment, I enjoying drinking in these visions in B & W.
Sd14 said at 4:32 p.m. on Mar 12, 2009:
this is all history now past impressions of your reality presented by you to perhaps enlighten we the viewers& perhaps to solicit some kind of emotion for the reality you have seen, a photograph can only ever be its own reality for we it will only ever record an impression of said reality,
for we will only ever see a record of the happenings in the recorded moment, hence a photograph is just a slice of times happenings recorded to assist with our memory recall at a later date & the emotions we felt in the moment recorded. your black& white composition is well done/ colour here would not have done these images justice& not invoked artistic comments or appreciation of your artistic use of the photographic medium, congrats is in the order here, Well done you have inspired your viewers to look & take note of your creativity with the camera, the last photo is the most emotive, the eyes have a question with in them & her reality.
:-)) :-)) :-))
Pkeener said at 4:53 p.m. on Mar 12, 2009:
forgot to mention the lil <3
Pkeener said at 4:55 p.m. on Mar 12, 2009:
and btw, would love to see some of these in color. WHAT?? yes, I appreciate color for it's artistry, too.
Lifequest22 said at 5:21 p.m. on Mar 12, 2009:
I think I'm seeing 3 realities--yours, theirs and mine. Is there ever just one reality? Reality is often based on perseption. And realities are so vast and contrast greatly. But for now, I believe that the reality of each of these photos is stupendous. would the realities of these images change if they were in color.
Leftofcenter said at 5:47 p.m. on Mar 12, 2009:
the reality here is that this is brilliant b/w photography. my faves would be the people pics.
Abking said at 9:32 p.m. on Mar 12, 2009:
I 2nd Lefty's statement above. You made art from the reality you were in and we are looking at the results. Beautiful rich tones, a variety of composition and content: I'd call what you put up here more balanced than harsh.
Mariusblack said at 10:35 p.m. on Mar 12, 2009:
i was speechless for a while there. it's a totally different experience seeing these photos in a tabblo rather than just in an album in multiply. and i have to congratulate you for finally using the 6x6 layout. soooo wonderful. fantastic work on this one, manong! of course, what else will we expect from the master? heehee! =)
Charlespop said at 11:11 p.m. on Mar 12, 2009:

Joagy: in life and creativity there is nothing impossible:)Probably all:)
Joaqy said at 12:41 a.m. on Mar 13, 2009:
Thank you guys for kind words.

Having an accompanying text do elicit a different response as opposed to not having any at all which I always do because I am not a good story teller.

Also, viewing this in color will not have the same impact. 95% of these images were taken in HARSH and hard light or very little light at all. In other words, dullness.

AKE: THat will be the day when I get published. Am working on it. :)

ALEXEY: AM glad it touched you. Thanks.

LINDA: Yes, the realities would indeed change if it were presented in color.

PAM: Love the critique. Hehe It may be a 'bygone era' for you but it still 'present' in our country. But I get ya! :)

MARIUS: It is different. Why do you think we have two sites?
Snooway said at 2:50 a.m. on Mar 13, 2009:

Pkeener said at 10:37 a.m. on Mar 13, 2009:
Congrats and Right on!! Joaqs, I was referring to the captures of people on the street being made in Black and White! Like from the great photojournalists, not the sad poverty, which is actually very real here, as well. and now Black and White is often just used as an "artistic" medium. You have the eye and the feel for good reortage and that is what I love about your work
Eduardo.affonso said at 10:37 a.m. on Mar 13, 2009:
Black & white is perfect when you want to photograph souls.

Trying to answer some one of your questions, I think we will never know the truth - not through photography. Photography is always a detail - and what to show & what to hide is a choice that makes you lie (or distort, at least), in a way or another. Photography is the artist's point of view (subjective, hence tendentious). Pictures don't say a single word - that's why they say so much.
Candlepower said at 12:04 p.m. on Mar 13, 2009:
Wonderful Black and white collection. Captivating and intersting! Congratulations on TOD!!

DEE-Trow said at 6:01 p.m. on Mar 13, 2009:
These are fantastic pictures. The black and white photos say so much. The absence of color makes you look more deeply into what is going on. Beautifully done!
