A book is a friend...is a private teacher... is a way to get lost in unknown places with strange people... I love books since my early ages! You are lucky to spend your spare time, at lunch, in a bookshore. Wonderful!

Not only do I like to read books, I like to look at their covers. You really made the most of your lunch hour, and we get to browse with you.
Leftofcenter said at 10:22 p.m. on Mar 4, 2009:
Thanks again everyone. Well I didn't read or even buy most of the books shown above, some of the covers are just brilliant for the photos only. I take 2 to 3 shots at a time since it's forbidden to photograph (industrial spying!!) but I drink a lot of caffe latte. Last book I bought there was Jimmy Buffett's A Salty Piece of Land. First line: George Harrison died yesterday... SOLD.
Welshchick said at 5:08 a.m. on Mar 5, 2009:
Oh I really REALLY like this Annelies- with my work schedule it's hard to find time to read AND I NOTICED that when I don't read as much...I have to look up more words in the dictionary for spelling...I never used to have to do that... bottom line is: YEAH! FEED YOUR HEAD~

"Good friends, good books and a sleepy conscience: this is an ideal life." Fun tab, I like it.
AliDar said at 1:25 p.m. on Mar 5, 2009:
This tab is all about Feeding your head, but not just with words. There is so much eye candy here, I'm glad it doesn't have any calories... I'll think I'll sit back with the Creating Yourself book, order one of those cappuccinos, ... and before I leave I'll get me one of those boxes of toffee almonds and cherries, behind that very cool sculpture of the woman in the red dress. :)
AliDar said at 1:27 p.m. on Mar 5, 2009:
And of course I got the title reference. Just heard it on my shuffle yesterday while I was deliver my newspapers. ... BTW, John, I just read that very quote somewhere the other day, and I can't remember where....
21-gramm said at 2:42 p.m. on Mar 5, 2009:
If this tabblo Leftie, I must admit its great.

Very nice to see your work place. Excellent book! I

n the words of Charles Baudelaire, "I grew up in the library." I can say about you "She live in a library, book where we can buy".

Excellent!
Leftofcenter said at 8:35 a.m. on Mar 6, 2009:
I don't work there, DEN, I work nextdoor- I couldn't find that quote from Baudelaire, but I found this one:
a book is a garden, an orchard, a storehouse, a party, a company by the way, a counselor, a multitude of counselors. (CB)
PhotoPop said at 8:57 a.m. on Mar 6, 2009:
Dar, the quote is from Mark Twain. I forgot to give him the credit.
Leftofcenter said at 9:02 a.m. on Mar 6, 2009:
love the "sleepy conscience". that's going to be the titel of my next photoshopped tab.
Mariusblack said at 11:48 a.m. on Mar 6, 2009:
thanks for inviting me to the 'books' group. if there's one thing that i can't leave the house without (aside from the keys, wallet and phone, that is. hehehe), it would be a good book - perfect companion during traffic jams and keeps the mind from being idle too long. a perfect collage you have here, annelies. and i love the very passionate red for the background. good job on your industrial spying. you could surely be a Bond girl. =)

La Voix

Mon berceau s'adossait à la bibliothèque,
Babel sombre, où roman, science, fabliau,
Tout, la cendre latine et la poussière grecque,
Se mêlaient. J'était haut comme un in-folio.
Deux voix me parlaient. L'une, insidieuse et ferme,
Disait: «La Terre est un gâteau plein de douceur;
J'aime si tendrement le désert et la mer;
Que je ris dans les deuils et pleure dans les fêtes,
Et trouve un goût suave au vin le plus amer;
Que je prends très souvent les faits pour des mensonges,
Et que, les yeux au ciel, je tombe dans des trous.
Mais la voix me console et dit: «Garde tes songes:
Les sages n'en ont pas d'aussi beaux que les fous!»

— Charles Baudelaire

What a lovely tabblo here. I really love the thought of you creeping about with your camera taking the odd picture here and there. I find books hard to resist and working next door would be a very tempting thought but then spending rest time in a bookstore Starbucks sounds perfect!

"I have always imagined that Paradise will be a kind of library." (Jorge Luis Borges).

A good bookstore would be anough for me. By the way, I must check if there`s a Brazilian translation of "How to avoid falling in love with a jerk"...
Leftofcenter said at 10:18 a.m. on Mar 17, 2009:
porque Edu? any bad past experiences with that? ;)
Eduardo.affonso said at 10:37 a.m. on Mar 17, 2009:
1. Sorry for the typo ("enough", not "anough"...)
2. I have an irresistible attraction for jerks, and it seems to be reciprocal.
3. Your Portuguese is much better than my Quebequois, but here goes another lesson of my amazing language: "porque" means "because", "por que" means "why" and "por quê" means "meaning". Easy and pretty logical, uh?
Leftofcenter said at 10:44 a.m. on Mar 17, 2009:
so what you're saying (you don't have to be diplomatic with me mister!) is: I should have written por que and not porque (which reminds me of porky) well you know I'm a "linguist" and i believe in learning until the end of times, feed(ing) your head! thx Eduardo.
Eduardo.affonso said at 11:24 a.m. on Mar 17, 2009:
As that great Greek philosopher Alanis said, "You live you learn, You love you learn, You cry you learn, You lose you learn". I don't love nor live very much, but I do cry and lose, so I'm always learning something. Unlike me, you live and love, so you must be learning, too. Until the end of times, if possible.

The mess with "por que" / "porque" / "por quê" and "obrigado" / "obrigada" is usual among Brazilians, too - so you don't have to feel ashamed (nor angry with me!). Maybe you will be speaking Portuguese when you decide to spend some hot vacations in this part of the world, why not?
Leftofcenter said at 11:41 a.m. on Mar 17, 2009:
Alanis is a Canadian philosopher!! :) If you cry and felt you lost, then you've loved and learned. Brazil, or I should say Rio, has been a dream of mine the first time I heard Jobim's Quiet Nights of Quiet Stars by Astrud Gilberto & Stan Getz (my dad's music). If I ever make it to those distant shore, you'll be the first one I'll call!!
Eduardo.affonso said at 11:59 a.m. on Mar 17, 2009:
Aren't all philosphers Greek?? I didn't know frozen folks could ratiocinate properly.

I'm glad you'd call me first if you ever make it to these far, far away shores. I don't know Jobim's number, but I'm afraid he won't be able to talk to you. "Quiet nights" is one of my favorite songs, and I recommend you to listen to the version by Elis Regina - it's a masterpiece.
