Lovely As a Tree

I think that I shall never see

A poem lovely as a tree.

A tree whose hungry mouth is prest

Against the earth's sweet flowing breast;

A tree that looks at God all day

And lifts her leafy arms to pray;

A tree that may in Summer wear

A nest of robins in her hair;

Upon whose bosom snow has lain;

Who intimately lives with rain.

Poems are made by fools like me,

But only God can make a tree.

~Joyce Kilmer, "Trees," 1914

Between every two pines is a doorway to a new world.  ~John Muir

The groves were God's first temples.  ~William Cullen Bryant, "A Forest Hymn"

Trees are the earth's endless effort to speak to the listening heaven.  ~Rabindranath Tagore, Fireflies, 1928

And this, our life, exempt from public haunt, finds tongues in trees, books in the running brooks, sermons in stones, and good in everything.  ~William Shakespeare

It's a perfect match: a beautiful photo and bright quotes. I`m sure you are one of those who find "tongues in trees, books in the running brooks, sermons in stones".

My sweet grandmother - who just turned 90- can still quote this whole poem! It's one of her faves and I've heard it many many times over the years when I have been w/her - it's a joy to see it here too! PS - your photo is FAB!
