100 Years Old Today!

February 8, 2009:

 

Today is my grandmother's 100th birthday! She's down in Florida for the winter (lives in MA) with my Mom and Aunt. She's already had a few birthday parties and we will have a huge family party in June.

I called my Grandma yesterday and she said she enjoyed her birthday party and cake. Yes, she can still walk but now has to have a cane. Her hearing is pretty poor and she's stubborn: she doesn't want to wear her hearing aid, as she says it bothers her, so most of us have to talk REALLY loud, which can be irritating, but we put up with it. A funny story: When she was about 95 she said, "I felt pretty good up until I hit 92." She's not a wine drinker, but will have a small cocktail each evening (gin/tonic). I think what has kept her alive all these years is that she's been a hard worker and EVERY day she does something, whether it's weeding her garden, visiting the senior center to visit her friends, or working on a puzzle. Thanks for visiting my Tab. Monica. Glad to see your grandma still going strong and well. My mother is 104 years old but unfortunately she has been bedridden for the last 2 year.

This weekend I'll be in Massachusetts celebrating her birthday with lots of family and relatives. She's had at least 1/2 dozen parties since February (in Florida), but now that the weather is warm, we're gathering to celebrate.

Thanks Eduardo! We had a great birthday celebration and even someone from the newspaper came by to log the event. We probably had 75 people at the party. It was a long day for her but she was the queen for the day!
